The inspiration for this piece came from a vacation I took to Crater Lake National Park in Oregon, where I learned about the Klamath Indian tribes. The beginning section starts with a very tranquil and lyrical melody that has interplay between the woodwinds and brass. The call and answer motives are followed by an allegro section that uses the same melodies found in the beginning of the piece. The accompaniment has a Native American drum ostinato pattern. The song ends by repeating the opening  melodies before building to a strong finish.
